Sometimes its nice to remember we live in a land where the pursuit of happiness is one of our inalienable rights…meaning that as long as the person is over 18, we can joyously pump/push our love button/handle to whatever floats our boat online. Not to sound like your mom chiding you for not finishing your dinner, but there are people in India who would kill to switch positions with you…especially now that the Amended Information Technology Bill has passe in India’s Parliament, forbidding the search for pornography on the Internet.
The law, notes UK adult site Hush-Hush, gives sweeping powers to authorities, including raids and arrests without a warrant. A second offence could lead to a longer jail sentence of seven years. Just visiting a home page of a site would open up user to investigation.
Thought police much? That’s terrifying, especially since we all know how easy it is to download some pornie virus that fills your computer up with spam from HOT XXXX BUSTY BABES.
The worst part though? If convicted, “criminals” could be sentenced to a maximum of five years in jail and a $1.4 million fine. I think I’m going to go watch some porn right now as a single tear rolls down my cheek and a bald eagle flies overhead. God bless America. (Update: Oh, looks like we have one of those anti-obscenity laws here in the U.S. of A. as well. Good to know.)
