Sex Workers Taking to the Streets… in Protest, Of Course

USA/SEXWORKERS

We wanted to use the photo that said “US Out of My Underwear,” but this story doesn’t take place in America.

Did you know tomorrow is, uh, “International Whores Day?” Unfortunately, this is not some holiday where you get a discount on an hour of whipping and oral sex– it’s actually devised by the sex workers of the world to draw attention to their plight.

And no, their purpose, at least tomorrow, is not to legalize prostitution, although it has everything to do with money.

First off, it should be mentioned that prostitution is legal in New South Wales, so this isn’t some pointless campaign. Secondly, the complaint seems entirely valid– newspapers are overcharging sex workers for placing ads, possibly due to the stuffy mores of staffers or the publishers themselves. Check out this unforgettably Freudian quote that no one has called attention to:

Sex worker Ivy McIntosh said people in her profession were being overcharged when they placed ads in local papers.

“I’m paying too much for a measly two inches,” she said

They plan to march tomorrow, on the 34th anniversary of the fake holiday made up by France. Awesome.
