At the turn of the 21st century, recent Brown graduate Sam Benjamin was hanging around potheads in California, wondering what to do with his degree. Almost as a joke, he decided to make a “feel-good” porno and sell copies of it on eBay. While it may not have been his intention, Benjamin soon found himself at the center of a growing movement of over-educated Ivy Leaguers who just want to film people having sex…
Bill Asher, an ‘84 graduate of Dartmouth College - this blogger’s own alma mater - is the President and co-owner of Vivid Entertainment, the world’s largest pornography distributer. H Bomb, a porn magazine published by Harvard students, proudly features “nude co-eds and critical theory”. In addition to racy photos of students sans clothing, H Bomb features student-submitted poetry and essays about politics. [SF Bay Guardian]
But is this really an Ivy League-led trend or are more graduates, now that porn itself is becoming more mainstream, simply turning toward the adult film industry as a quick and easy way to the exciting life they were promised?
Check out Benjamin’s new ebook (pictured above), which he jokingly subtitles “Survival in Asschwitz.”
