To warm you up into the Friday zone this afternoon, we present a few videos proving that Michael Jackson didn’t exactly invent all those dance moves he was famous for, even the Moonwalk. (Wait, the media got something wrong?) Plus these are just great to watch. Not that we would ever procrastinate by watching videos of people dancing better than we ever could.
First up, the Lockers, featuring Fred “Rerun” Berry.
Next, Bob Fosse as Snake in the Grass in The Little Prince, which, as Brooke Shields’ memorial speech highlighted, was a big favorite of MJ’s.
Finally, a montage of many amazing dancers who preceed MJ doing similar moves to the Moonwalk.
So it’s pretty evident dancers were doing similar moves decades before Michael. And we try so hard not to read the comments on YouTube, as each one chips away at our faith in the survival of humankind, but this one caught our eye:
“did mickael jackson make the moonwalk??”
FAIL.

Guess you haven’t been watching a lot of the MJ coverage. Do a Google News search of “invented the Moonwalk” and you’ll see what I mean.
if people want to go there i am willing to address an important fact about elvis imitating black musicians like little richard and james brown. the pelvis thrust was not invented by elvis but by black swing blues singers of the 40s and 50s. i wonder why this nerve writer would focus on michael jackson, such hypocrisy.
Oh gee, I don’t know, it’s not like Michael Jackson has been in the news at all lately. Why would this Nerve writer possibly have focused on him?
And Elvis borrowing heavily from black musicians is pretty well acknowledged, I believe even in the MJ coverage.
Excellent vids! Bob Fosse in “Little Prince” was a blast from the past - he scared me to death in a sexy sorta way when I saw this as a kid…
