The Perfect Woman (In The 1930s)

From Buzzfeed comes this lovely illustration (and by lovely, I mean creepy) of what the “perfect woman” would look like, made up from a Frankenstein mish-mosh of screen idols’ body parts. I mean, it’s obvious to everyone that Gloria Swanson had the perfect wrist (6″, natch), but I for one was shocked to see that Norma Talmadge had the perfect neck! I don’t know about you guys, but I like a neck to be a more feminine and graceful 12.75″. Girls with 12.5″ necks are tramps, and we all know that.

Ha! They were so horrible back then, amiright? Of course, we here at Scanner are no strangers to appreciating a specific body part. But I think it’s the idea of, well, chopping these woman up and resembling them into an ideal glamazon that is so weird.

Also, I would note that only two of those names are widely familiar now. Take note, Kim Kardashian - you cannot stay famous forever on the merits of one body part alone.

Um, which four, among Clara Bow, Marion Davies, Greta Garbo Mary Pickford, Norma Shearer and Gloria Swanson, is not familiar.

Oh, I did miss Gloria Swanson! But I’ll confess to having to look up Mary Pickford and Norma Shearer (though the latter was familiar once I read up). And I would wager that a lot of people in their twenties would have to as well, though maybe I’m just underestimating my generation.

Ah, I’m an old movie fan so almost all of them were actually familiar and in fairly major movies. That said, you messed it up. Gloria Swanson had the perfect wrists… I’d be afraid, very afraid… and stay away from pools.
